You’ll get your chance to see one in action at the Scottish Fun Night at Wingham Services Club on Friday, June 1.
Hosted by the Manning Valley Pipes and Drums Inc (formerly Wingham Pipes and Drums) the night promises a proper Scot’s night out with a pipe band concert, Scottish trivia, games and dancing.
The haggis will be addressed at a traditional Haggis Ceremony with the Robert Burn’s poem Address to a Haggis recited.
The haggis will also be piped in and piped out.
“It’s very traditional,” said pipe major John Andrew.
“People love it and look forward to it.”
And if you think it all sounds a little too formal, bear in mind that an Address to a Haggis is a little tongue in cheek.
The haggis ceremony is just another opportunity to have some good old fashioned fun and a chance to down a dram of whisky.
The night wouldn’t be complete without a proper haggis supper with the Scottish potato dish ‘neeps and tatties.’
John and his band members encourage locals to come along to the Scottish Fun Night.
Tickets are just $10 each and will be available on the door or you can pre-order online at http://bonnie-wingham-scottish-festival.manninghistorical.org/
Be there by 7pm so you don’t miss anything.
