They might not be bringing the King and Queen, but there will definitely be a highly respected general and the odd baron and baroness at the 14th Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival.

Mordenvale, a re-enactment group from Newcastle, will bring their medieval world to Wingham’s Central Park on Saturday, June 2 for the first time.
Up to 20 members of the group are expected at the festival, bringing with them a rich collection of swords and armour for two impressive fighting displays.
Fortunately most of the swords are made of rattan and those made of metal have safety baubles on the end.
“It’s all in fun,” assures Rachel Archinal, who does publicity for the group.
Rachel also dresses as a Viking and calls herself Runa Hundadottir.
Rachel originally hails from Mount George and joined Mordenvale more than two years ago.
She relishes the opportunity to dress in medieval clothes and indulge in the arts and sciences of old. Many members of the group study embroidery, sewing, costuming, calligraphy and even dancing.
Oh and they do a lot of cooking and brewing too. Rachel said the group holds regular feasts back in Newcastle.
A static display at Bonnie Wingham will showcase their skills and give festival goers an opportunity to chat to the folks of the Barony of Mordenvale.
And despite the rough exterior of many of the fighters we are assured they are quite friendly.
“We’re just a bunch of nerds talking about history,” said Rachel.
