I note with interest Mr Stephen Bromhead’s petition to build a new public hospital in Forster-Tuncurry.

Whilst a public hospital would be welcomed by most, I think it is disingenuous at best, that Mr Bromhead would raise public expectations when he knows full well the criteria the ‘bean counters’ would use to justify a new hospital do not exist.
There is no doubt that public health services across the Mid Coast region need significant increased funding and improvement, however, the criteria used to justify a new public hospital should be made public to better inform the debate.
One also might question the reasoning behind our sitting member having to raise a petition on the matter given that, if the criteria did exist for a new public hospital, then as sitting member, he should have direct access to the relevant Minister to prosecute his case?
One could conclude that the real reason for his petition is to gain access to constituents’ personal details, or, he just doesn’t exercise any influence inside his own party.
