These are the qualities which sparked Sydney based Drag-ens Hot Rod Club to bring RattleTrap back to Crowdy Head Beach.
With the event set to take place on Saturday, May 12, club president Andrew McClleland said the beach provides an optimal location for the event.
“When looking for the ideal beach, we wanted good access for cars and a good surface once the tide is out,” Mr McClelland said.
“We originally looked at the main beach and were quickly swayed by members of the Crowdy Head Surf Live Saving Club, who were keen to see it run on the beach where the club is located.”
He added that the support from the Crowdy/Harrington community ensured they would return this year, in particular the Crowdy Head Surf Live Saving Club, Crowdy/Harrington Marine Rescue, Harrington Lions Club and Harrington Men’s Shed.
“This gave us better facilities and we were then lucky to be embraced by the people of Harrington and the community groups that now support the event,” Mr McClelland said.
Mr McClelland explained the popularity behind the event and the draw of building custom vehicles.
“The draw to old cars, particularly hot rods, is a sense of expression.
“Like art we build and modify these things to our own designs.
“Once built the pride and joy of bringing them out to put on display is awesome,” Mr McClelland said.
A larger turnout is expected following the success of the inaugural event in 2017.
Action will begin at 9.30am and will continue until the afternoon, tide permitting.
Tickets are on sale now and are limited.
