Imagine spending a weekend surrounded by the aroma of low and slow cooked meats while live music fills the air and to top it all off, you can taste the merchandise.
Unlike most smoking barbecue competitions, Gloucester’s Just Smokin at The Roundabout lets you sample the dishes throughout the two day event.
Event organiser, Dion Allan is encouraging people to come out from Friday, May 25 for "fun Friday”, when the 12 competitors will be setting up their rigs for cooking, set to the backdrop of a live band.
It’s a chilled beginning to a full-on weekend of barbecuing a range of meats in a variety of ways, boasting a wide range of flavours.
The official bits of the competition gear up on Saturday, May 26 and roll across to Sunday, May 27 giving ticket holders lots of time to experience the competition.
This boutique Australasian Barbecue Alliance-sanctioned event is designed to get the community involved in the competition.
Along with being able to sample what’s on offer, ticket holders are also able to judge what they try, with Saturday being People’s Choice, where ticket holders vote on their favourite dish.
On the Sunday it is down to business with five categories being judged by a cast of trained tasters, some you may recognise from the community. Even though competitors will be in the middle of a cooking challenges, the food they produce will still be available for ticket holder tasting. The event takes place out of the back of the pub where ticket holders are free to wander around sampling the chicken, lamb, pork ribs, beef ribs and brisket.
There will be more happening during the event weekend than just cooking and live music. There will also be barbecuing demonstrations and tips about how to cook the perfect barbecue meats.
Things kick off at 10am on Saturday and run until 4pm on Sunday at the Roundabout Inn on Church Street, Gloucester. There’s one ticket price that covers the entire weekend, with the freedom to come and go as you please. Organisers are keen on sharing the “art” of the barbecuing experience, therefore tickets are limited.
Tickets cost $15 per adult, $10 per child with childern under 12 free and can be purchased at www.stickytickets.com.au/60849/just_smokin_2018.aspx
