There will be two hilarious tailor-made one-act plays.
In ‘Last Tango in Upper Lansdowne’, the four members of a consistently unsuccessful village theatre group, in debt and under threat of closure, are so desperate that they agree to their chairman's solution – 'Sex sells!’ And it does, spectacularly so, starring a certain player's memorable mammaries… or at least one of them!
In the sequel, “Last Panto in Upper Lansdowne”, the group gets a second chance, almost avoiding the disaster of a musical, and aiming for an ‘adult’ pantomime based on the tale of Dick Whittington and his Cat. Double meanings tumble over the bleeding obvious, the horse, the cat, and the cast, and of course end in catastrophe.
As this year the Players are part of the Manning Winter Festival, they will be touring the show to other village halls after a shorter Upper Lansdowne season, which will be, Saturday dinner shows, May 19 and 26 at 7pm; Sunday matinées, May 20 and 27 at 2.30pm.
The plays are by arrangement with Origin Theatrical and directed by Vivienne Scott.
You can book now by phoning Sue on 6556 9290 or 0405 449 060 or go online for easy booking.
Paul McKenna Band at Upper Lansdowne
If you enjoyed the show Ten Strings and A Goatskin or Flats and Sharps, then you should love The Paul McKenna Band. Think of them as a blend of those two acts, but with a Celtic flavour.
Even though the Upper Lansdowne hall is pretty much booked out until September, when they were offered this opportunity, one listen and they knew they should squeeze it in because they’re that good.
Paul and his band weave exceptional melodies with traditional instrumentation and their sound has made them alumni at some of the world’s finest festivals - Woodford, Tonder Folk Festival, Cambridge Folk Fest and six major Canadian folk festivals.
Book early for the Friday, June 1 performance. Ten Strings and A Goatskin sold out and the organisers think these guys will do the same.
What the reviews say:
“The best folk band to have come out of Scotland in the last twenty years” New York Times
“The best band of their generation” The Living Tradition
“A band with the potential to dominate the Scottish/Irish traditional scene for the next twenty years” Fatea Magazine.
There is no support act. The Paul McKenna Band will do two sets with an interval.
