Organised by Neleh Jones, it will be held in Taree on Thursday April 26 and will include a presentation by guest speaker Suzi Rowe from Samaritans, who will talk about the work of the refuge.

“I am hoping to raise awareness of not only the refuge and the services they offer but to give hope to people who have been through traumatic childhoods and help them realise there can be a positive future even after their past,” said Neleh.

She said she personally understands the importance of refuges and what they can do for women and children living in less than ideal situations.

“I too was sexually abused as a child and this resonated with me and made me want to help. 

“I had to go and live in a women’s refuge when I was younger, after my mother left my stepfather for what he had done (and for which he was later convicted in court).”

Now a mum herself, Neleh became a Younique makeup presenter last November and one of the numerous reasons she joined was due to the Younique Foundation, which she said is a haven for women who have been sexually abused when they were children.

And while she wants to help the foundation, her focus is on helping local businesses and charities.

As part of the fundraiser there will be a raffle and a silent auction and Younique products are available.

“I am so excited to see everyone who has purchased a ticket and chosen to support this fundraiser so far,” said Neleh.

“It has truly humbled me with the amount of support I have received from friends, family and the community!”

The high tea will be held at Cafe 1 Twenty 3 in Taree at 2.30pm on Thursday April 26. Tickets are $20.
