The work stretches 550m from King Street in Cundletown through to the driveway of Kingston Creek Creamery (1 Main Street), with current works in progress tackling existing drainage issues. In this initial stage, MidCoast Council crews have completed the replacement of existing kerb and gutter, and the contractor will continue on-site through to early May to construct a new dish drain.
In stage two, asphalt works will commence in mid-May, including heavy patching of the existing road pavement and the application of a 50mm overlay. It is anticipated the second stage will continue for about two weeks, weather permitting.
“It’s a busy route that connects outer-lying residents to Taree’s CBD, and a prime candidate for a makeover that will deliver a smoother and safer driving surface”, Rhett Pattison, MidCoast Council’s manager, projects and engineering, said. “The final asphalt treatment will provide a durable surface suitable for the high volume of traffic that Main Street carries on a daily basis.”
The asphalt works will be undertaken primarily after hours, however traffic control will be in place at times and motorists can expect minor delays. Restrictions to on-street parking within the work zone will also be in place for the duration of the works.
Motorists are asked to observe roadworks signage, reduced speed limits, and directions from road crews, and to travel with caution through the area.
The Main Street reconstruction project is part of MidCoast Council’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the region, and will be delivered through a combination of NSW Government grant funding, Stronger Communities funding and MidCoast Council capital expenditure funding.
