It’s the time of year where cricket bats are swapped for footy boots, and the good news is that MidCoast Council’s parks team has already been around the grounds getting them in tip top condition for our favourite winter sports.

And with more than 60 full-size playing fields to attend to across the Mid Coast, preparing to kick off the new season is no mean feat!
Our active lifestyle and love of team sports will see competitions starting up around the MidCoast in some of our favourite winter pastimes that include rugby league, soccer, netball and hockey.
“Sport is a huge part of our local culture, and we take pride in ensuring our facilities are in the best possible condition before the season starts,” explained Wayne Hull, MidCoast Council’s Coordinator of Parks and Reserves.
“We also service 86 playgrounds and 14 skate parks across the region, so every taste is catered for as we head into the colder weather.”
As the winter sports facilities heat-up, local swimming pools are starting to close their doors for the winter spell.
The final day of operation for outdoor pools at Gloucester, Krambach, Nabiac, Tuncurry, Bulahdelah, Tea Gardens and Stroud is Sunday April 29 (including opening on Anzac Day), however due to the end of daylight saving they are now closing at 6pm daily.
The Wingham Memorial Swimming Pool and Manning Aquatic Leisure Centre’s outdoor pool both closed over the Easter long weekend, reopening on October 1.
