MidCoast Council have been given a $75,000 grant to undertake an impact study to identify potential solutions to mitigate hazards that Racecourse Creek is having across popular Old Bar Beach.

Member for Myall Lakes Stephen Bromhead said the aim of the study is to better understand the way the catchment and coastal processes are working to impact the beach which will allow council to consider future management options as part of the MidCoast Council Coastal Management Program.
“The council has been working hard to understand and address coastal issues at Old Bar and this funding will support them in specifically focusing on the impact of Racecourse Creek on Old Bar Beach in the vicinity of Pacific Parade, as well as developing potential options to manage the impact,” Mr Bromhead said.
“The study is another step in understanding erosion issues at Old Bar by providing ocuncil with planning and catchment modification suggestions that can be considered and may alleviate the current problems at this very popular beach.”
The funding is being provided under the NSW government’s Coastal and Estuary Grants Program which supports local government through ongoing technical and financial support in managing the coastal zone.
