The crucifixion of Jesus will be commemorated, commencing at 10am this Friday, Good Friday, at Our Lady of Fatima church in Hall Street, Old Bar.
Weather permitting, the majority of the event is held outside in the grounds of the church.
Traditionally all denominations of Old Bar have joined to mark this special time in the Christian calendar. It is a public event, so all in the community are very welcome.
RSL prepares for Anzac Day
The Old Bar Beach RSL Sub-branch held its regular monthly meeting last week. Two of its members were in hospital at the time, treasurer Peter Vidler and former president, Brian Carr.
Taree Legacy has requested that Legatees be notified of the death of any veteran so assistance can be provided to the widow/widower and family.
The sub-branch, like all sub-branches in NSW, is still prevented from carrying out fundraising and this is continuing to have a negative impact on the sub-branch finances.
The Soldiers' Memorial Hall Committee will conduct some activities on Anzac Day so that the spirit of the day is not lost. The assistance from Club Old Bar and the Old Bar Public School is very much appreciated.
In an effort to show our support to the school children and the public who line the road for the march, the sub-branch is purchasing a number of poppies to hand out along the way.
Members of the sub-branch will be honoured to take part in the school Anzac Day service on Friday, April 13.
They will also take part in the upcoming Old Bar Men's Shed Health Expo.
An Anzac Sunday service is to be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Old Bar on April 22.
Many members of the sub-branch attended the funeral of the late Phillip James Roberts, an Old Bar resident and veteran, where they formed an honour guard and delivered the RSL tribute.
