In the past few years, a spot of rainy weather dampened spirits on show weekend, but Dave had high hopes for the 106th event, and he wasn’t disappointed.
"There were lots of people excited to get their fill after perhaps missing out in the last few years,” Dave laughed.
“It was nice to have a sunny forecast, and the chance to show off some of the great attractions from around the area.”
Dave has held the position of president for 20 years now, and has seen many different attractions roll through, but one thing that never changes, he said, is that the show is for everyone.
“It’s always been a good show, something for everyone. The kids just love it, parents too, but there are so many things for the kids, that’s what sets us apart from other shows,” he explained.
“The biggest change the show has seen over my years has been the strain put on us by changing insurance regulations and new rules.
“We haven’t been able to have dairy cattle here for 10-12 years with the new regulations on the industry. From here to Krambach now there’s only about five dairies left.”
But, it’s not all bad news, with a number of old favourites continuing to deliver year after year, including the horse classes, arts, craft and produce displays, and the dog racing.
“One thing that doesn’t change with the weather is the dog racing, they come rain, hail or shine. And of course, the age old favourite, the demolition derby.
“People love to see old cars banging into each other, we hope that one will keep going for many years to come.”
Through time, effort and support Dave has given a lot to the show, and despite his long career, is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, saying that he just enjoys the chaos and excitement too much to retire.
