Thick fog recently dressed parts of the Manning Valley in “weird light” and the unusual weather event compelled Ben Inkson to leave the warmth of his bed to step into the cloudy air outside his home in Old Bar.
The 13-year-old loves photography and acts to focus the lens of his Canon 80D on things he discovers in the natural world, and on this particular morning, it was his family’s purebred American saddlebred stallion, Jacob.
“I woke up, thought it was really early because of the weird light but then I looked at my phone and saw it was 6.30am. So I grabbed my camera and went outside and that’s when I spotted Jacob. I loved the light and Jacob’s silhouette.”
Proud mum, Lesley, also loved the photo of Jacob and sent it to the Manning River Times.
Ben says he reaches for his camera when he wants a break and time-out in nature, and the Manning Valley Anglican College student also snaps pictures at some school events for its newsletter. It may become a career, he’s not sure, but for now he posts his pictures on Instagram at ben.inkson
