South Australia's top order wilted in the face of some high-quality Queensland bowling to leave the Redbacks facing a massive first-innings' deficit in their Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide Oval.

The home side lost five wickets during the middle session on day two to be 8-145 at tea, still trailing by 197.

It could have been even worse for SA who were for 7-89 at one stage.

Opening bowler Michael Neser (4-25) starred with the ball for Queensland as the home side lost 4-8.

Only some lusty hitting from leg-spinner Adam Zampa (41 not out from 37 balls) prevented further embarrassment for the Redbacks.

SA resumed after lunch at 3-40, having lost 3-9 just before the break.

The day had begun brightly for South Australia as opening bowler Daniel Worrall (4-75) mopped up the tail, with Queensland only able to add 16 more runs to their overnight 8-326.
