Brown, 20, has just finished her second season in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) with the Melbourne Renegades. However, there’s still some cricket to be played before she puts here gear away for the summer. 

She has commitments with the ACT Meteors in the Australian Women’s Cricket League. Brown headed to Canberra this week after having a bit of R and R at home, relaxing after the Renegades campaign concluded.

However, the Australian team will be touring India and the West Indies this year and Brown hopes she might get a call. Brown will be happy to make either trip, but admits heading to the West Indies would be ‘amazing.’

However, she hopes she’s on the selectors’ radar.

An all-rounder, Brown was happy with her performances with the Renegades during the WBBL, even though the side missed the finals. The fact her team missed the playoffs still rankles Brown.

“We should have made the semis,’’ she said.

“We had a good enough side, but our batting let us down.’’

The Renegades had to defeat Port Scorchers in the final match to clinch a berth, but it wasn’t a happy ending and the Melbourne squad watched the finals from the sidelines.

Brown finished the season with 15 wickets.

“Last year I took four, so that was an improvement,’’ she said.

Brown’s preparation for the WBBL was hampered by a stress fracture in her leg. At one stage she thought her career might have been over, although she later admitted her prognosis was ‘a bit dramatic.’

“My first game for the Renegades was my first for the season,’’ she said.

“But it got through okay.’’

Brown was also reasonably happy with her form with the bat during the WBBL. That was a part of her game she was looking to improve from her debut season.

Brown is contracted to the Renegades for 2018/19, having inked a two year deal before the start of the current season. While missing a semi-final berth, the Renegades enjoyed their best campaign in the league after finishing at the foot of the ladder in the previous two seasons.

“We’re working our way up there slowly,’’ she said.

“So next season we’ll hopefully be in the semi-finals.’’

Brown will now mix a bit of cricket with university studies, hoping she also receives a call from selectors informing she’ll be required for higher duties.
