Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Albert Street, Taree is currently undergoing renovations to remove and replace the crosses on the front of the building. Spokesperson from the church, Jan Swift said that the crosses have been in place since 1930, and are in delicate condition.
“One of them was badly broken, and it was quite dangerous,” Jan said.
The completion of the project is expected to take another three months.
“Because the building is heritage listed, we have to get the exact same crosses, so new ones have to be made to replace the old ones,” Jan explained.
“The new crosses will need to be blessed, and there will be a ceremony for that. We are going to put a time capsule in the front cross.”
