The Spectacular Spring High Tea Garden Party hosted by Anglican Care Auxiliary, Manning in George Hoad’s Winchelsea Gardens at Killabakh was a great success.
More than 100 people attended the event, raising more than $3000 for the charity.
The guests were treated to a great day out including a delicious high tea, loads of lucky door and raffle prizes, a magnificent display of quilts by the Pelican Piecers Patchwork and Quilting group, and entertainment provided by Gary Spicer, Keegan Gibson, Deidre Sutherland, Jacqui Roetman, and Cameron Waugh.

“A garden filled with live music, laughter, fine food and friendship is a joy to behold,” said garden owner and president of the Auxiliary, George Hoad.
“I’m so pleased at the response to our fundraising day and to see everyone enjoying themselves. Thank you to all those who attended, the Auxiliary ladies who did a wonderful job cooking and serving, the entertainers and to the locals who helped with the set up and tidy afterwards.
“It really was a tremendous community event and the rain that followed was a gardener’s dream come true!” George said.
The day was also a celebration of Australia’s innaugral National Gardening Week, an initiative of George’s that he launched earlier this year in Melbourne and has been embraced across the country.
A special treat for all concerned was the heavy shower of rain that started just as the guests were departing.

“I’m very proud of what has been achieved to date and delighted by the response nationwide, especially from the gardening community. Numerous events have been planned from open gardens to tree plantings to activities involving school children,” George said.
“I’m already working on ideas for next year’s event.”
