The club exceeded its target of $1000 and actually raised $1814.45. The funds will go towards a club member attending the Hunter Stroke Olympics next month.
The winner was Ann Morris from Taree. Her tickets were a present of appreciation from a club volunteer who recently had a mild stroke herself, and Ann, a neighbour had been helping out on her return home. A well-deserved reward.
Unfortunately, last week members attended the funeral of Mrs Livia Richardson.
Livia joined the stroke recovery club as a volunteer after she attended the 2012 Stroke Conference. Her life had been affected by ‘stroke’ – her parents had both died as a result of having a stroke and then her first husband also suffered a stroke and died, leaving Livia to raise their five children, all of whom attended her funeral.
Livia was held in high esteem by family and friend. Club members sent their condolences to her family and especially her husband of 21 years, Bob Richardson who had been caring for Livia the last couple of years as a result of a stroke early 2016. Livia will be sadly missed. She was 85 years.
The club’s next meeting is on Thursday, October 12, at Club Forster at 1.30pm. Members usually meet for lunch at prior to the meeting at the club’s bistro.
