A seed of an idea is beginning to flourish in Wingham. It is being nurtured by 14-year-old Wingham High School student Georgia Hudson and it inspired Well Creative partner, Chris Fagerstrom to craft promotional material.

It is ‘Seeds & Song – A Festival of Nature and Nurture’ and the 14-year-old student is working to create the October 28 community event with the support of Youth Frontiers.
Georgia is taking part in the program that focuses on leadership and civic engagement and is working to plan and deliver a unique event in the grounds of Manning Valley Community Garden. Her passion is performing, she believes the community needs to learn more about nurturing the environment and themselves, and is working to bring together performers who will provide four hours of entertainment and organisations and businesses that will deliver a diverse range of environmental and self-nurture workshops.
Each week Georgia meets with a Youth Frontiers mentor for around an hour at Wingham High School and in recent months they have worked to develop the concept and approach the community for guidance and support.
Well Creative acted quickly to support the project as “Georgia is excited about everything and we thought it would be great working with that really positive energy.” The business also decided to back the project as “the Wingham community has been really supportive of us.”
The invitation to provide Well Creative with a project brief “excited and delighted” Georgia and the concept of ‘Seeds & Song’ also inspired Chris to put pencil and pen to paper to create the brand.
“I love doing these sorts of jobs, anything where you get to draw, to do something the old fashioned way with pens and pencils, paper, erasers and rulers,” Chris said.
“From the brief I could tell this needed to have an organic feel, a handmade feel and a very youthful feel. It’s very simple and done in quite a naive kind of fashion. It’s a quick freehand sketch and the colours are outside of the lines to give it a youthful, organic feel.”
“Overwhelmed and extremely happy” is how Georgia described her reaction to seeing the poster, Facebook banner and logo.
Georgia is now working to secure performers and workshops, developing a Facebook page and hopes other businesses will follow the lead of Well Creative to support her. She is looking for help to print the posters, volunteers to host workshops, and hay bales that could be used for seating … this list is long and she is hopeful the community will want to be part of ‘Seeds & Song’.
