The warm-up event was the Garage Sales-R-Us on September 2 which, as usual, was a huge success.
The book shop is now open and operating six days a week from 9am to 12.30pm, selling second hand books, DVDs, records and jigsaw puzzles.
It will also be open on Sunday, September 24 when the next Old Bar markets are held.
It will continue operating until the festival is held and on that weekend, will trade from 8am to 3pm on the Saturday and Sunday.
All the goods for sale have been donated.
But the good news is, the books have been sorted by topic and then arranged alphabetically by author. This makes it really easy to check for titles by a particular author or a range of books on a particular topic.
Prices range from 10c to $3 with most well under $3.
Proceeds from these sales help in the running costs of the festival. Sales last year netted some $3200.
It is located in the former supermarket shop, between Luriya's Thai restaurant and the tobacconist.
You don't have long to grab a bargain as when the festival is over, the shop closes until September next year. Do yourself a favour and grab a bargain!
Old Bar's annual mega garage sale, Garage Sales-R-Us, was again a resounding success with more than 90 premises registered and having a sale. Organiser, Chris Rowsell, reported that a number of newer residents to the area made enquiries about sales this year and registered.
Festival volunteers still needed
The Old Bar Beach Festival will again be held over the long weekend September 30 to October 2.
The committee organising the event is seeking volunteers to assist in this venture.
Volunteers to assist in manning the entrances, guiding visitors, selling merchandise etc are needed.
Experience is not needed and all necessary equipment is provided. Rosters will be organised so volunteers have sessions of 2 hours on the Saturday and Sunday.
Those interested can send their details (name, age-if under 18, contact details) to the festival email address "festivalvolunteers10@gmail.com" or phone/SMS 0438 406-652. Your contact details can be either email address or phone number.
AGM for OBMP Business and Community Association
The annual general meeting of the Old Bar Manning Point Business and Community Association will be held at the surf club at 4pm Sunday, September 24.
New members are welcome.
Not only businesses are encouraged to join, but members of the community with an interest in progressing our town are now actively sought.
This meeting will be your best opportunity to hear firsthand what the chamber of commerce, now the Old Bar Manning Point Business and Community Association, has achieved and some of the things that it is working towards.
Craft at Old Bar
On September 20, Lea will show us how to crochet beautiful butterflies which can be used as brooches or decorations, or perhaps hung on mobiles to amuse babies.
The possibilities are endless. You will need to bring a 4mm crochet hook, 2 or 3 different colours of wool (smaller lengths) and either craft wire or pipe cleaners to match butterfly colours.
This is our last craft class for Term 3. Craft will be in recess for the school holidays, resuming for Term 4 on October 18.
