During the recent Parliamentary sitting period, we were able to secure the successful passage of section 46, strong new competition laws aimed at levelling the playing field so small businesses can compete.
I regularly speak to many small business people across the Lyne electorate who say they’re being ousted from the marketplace due to anti-competitive conduct by big business. These new laws offer beefed-up protection for small businesses with the consumer watchdog now empowered to stop those with substantial market power from reducing competition.
But while the Coalition continues to underline its commitment to growing local economies and creating jobs, Labor voted against a fairer deal for small business.
Meantime, it’s no secret that we’re an aging population – particularly right here on the Mid-North Coast – and the importance of strong aged care cannot be understated.
It’s an absolute priority of mine to ensure older people can access the help they need to live as good a life as possible. A new parliamentary support line has been launched which will better address questions or concerns raised by seniors within our community.
It will be operated by the best and most experienced My Aged Care contact centre staff and will enable us to provide accurate information and advice regarding your situation and promptly resolve any issues. For more information or assistance, I urge you to contact my office.
Finally, the Coalition government has resolved to honour its commitment to allow people to have a say on whether the Marriage Act should be redefined with a voluntary postal survey. Importantly, today, Thursday, August 24, is the final day to enrol and I strongly encourage you to do so.
