TAREE City Netball Club’s youngest team, the TC Treasures, are enjoying learning the basics of netball while playing against other local teams on Saturday morning. While this grade targets 8 and 9 year olds, some of the TC Treasures girls are as young as 6, but the modified rules and non-competitive grade make it a fun experience for all ages and abilities. When asked why they like netball, answers included: “Because it’s fun”, “Because I get to run,” and “Because I like defending.”

Taree City’s TC Tearaways (12/13 years division one) had their first win of the season this year, scraping home against the CJ Blue Steel team by one point. The TC Tearaways team is made up of 11 and 12 year old girls, so they face the challenge of playing against some much older and taller girls. As runners up in the 11s grade last year, it’s been a big step up for the girls to play in this division, but they’ve had some close games already this season and all agree the challenge has been great for improving their netball skills.
Five of the eight girls in the team have been selected in the Taree & District 12 years representative side and look forward to further improving their skills as they play for their district, at their first carnival this Sunday in Newcastle.
