Ebbon was unconscious in his boat when the crew arrived.
“The safety cell came to the fore,’’ Taree Powerboat Club committee member Scott Godfrey explained.
Ebbon was taken to Manning Hospital where he stayed overnight. He was expected to be released on Monday afternoon.
Lewis was shaken, but not badly hurt. Both boats were badly damaged.
The incident meant the day’s program was delayed and resulted in the King of the River not being run.
“We ran out of time,’’ Mr Godfrey said.
It was a mixed weekend for Ebbon, who earlier won the Liberty Cup in his boat, Airborne.
