She was presented the bronze award for Assistant in Nursing from Healthe Care, one of the largest network of privately owned private hospitals in Australia. 

They celebrate the achievements of staff across all areas of their medical facilities, including administration and maintenance.

“I had no idea. As far as I’m concerned I’m just doing my job,” Julie said.

Out of the 300 nominees across the country for the National Love Your Work program, Julie came third.

The awards recognise staff who deliver high quality care and service and show initiative in providing exceptional assistance. 

She was nominated by her clients, colleagues and the management of Mayo Home Nursing Services (MHNS) for providing quality care and service to the Gloucester community.

“It’s lovely to be recognised, especially for a little town like Gloucester,” she said.

She said it’s nice to get Gloucester on the map and noticed for the excellent home-care provided here.

“It’s such an achievement for Mayo Home Nursing in Gloucester to get the acknowledgment across the country. 

“I couldn’t have done it without the support of my colleagues and admin staff,” Julie said.

Julie became a began home-care nurse in January 2015 after working for 30 years as a dental nurse. 

Before dentistry and having a family, she worked as a medic in the army, travelling around to different parts of the country.

She started working with MHNS in April 2015, caring for people in their home, including any daily activities a client may need assistance with.

Julie feels this is a very important service to the community as it allows people to continue to be at home and maintain their independence.

“I live by the mantra; my clients aren’t living in my workplace, I'm working in their homes.”

She believes home-care is invaluable because people can get support at home instead of staying a hospital or care facility.
