Professor Michael Ralph Fellows, who resides at Old Bar when not teaching at the University of Bergen in Norway, was appointed as a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for eminent service to higher education, particularly in the field of theoretical computer science.
Prof Fellows was recognised as a leading academic, researcher and author in that field. He has been the elite professor of computer science at the University of Bergen since January.
His appointment as a Companion is the latest in a long list of awards and recognition for the acclaimed professor.
This includes an international gold medal of honour for computer science education, one of the highest honours in this field.
His extensive publishing list includes five books and more than 150 scientific articles.
Prof Fellows and his wife Frans Rosamond, a computer scientist, spend about half of their time in Old Bar, where their four grandchildren live.
