No longer will canoeist and kayakers have to slide down a muddy bank or push through mangroves to access the creek.
Visitors and members of the community are being invited to check out this new recreational boating facility in Railway Street, Taree.
This launch site will allow recreational canoeists and kayakers the opportunity to explore the two to three kilometres of waterway in the heart of our city without having to paddle several kilometres to enter or exit the creek from the river.
According to FOBC spokesman, Bill Dennis, it is an enjoyable experience negotiating the twists and turns in the creek, paddling under bridges and observing the variety of bird life, fish, water dragons and other wildlife.
"Once known as Crooked Creek, this waterway has an interesting history dating back to pre-white settlement," he said.
Friends of Browns Creek (Crooked Creek) thanked Greater Taree City Council for its support, and the NSW Government Boating Now Program for its funding. There will be an official launch of the ramp on Friday, November 27. "I invite people to come for a paddle sometime, then tell others of your experience," Bill said..
