The Wildcats had the better of play, however, at the end of ordinary time and overtime the scores were locked at 1-1. Macleay eventually won a penalty shoot out to advance to the grand final.
Now the Wildcats have to meet Port United in tomorrow’s final at Boronia Park. A win will see them join their first grade counterparts on grand final day.
Taree accounted for Port United in the preliminary semi-final a fortnight ago, fighting back from a 1-0 deficit to eventually win 2-1 in injury time.
Jackson Witts will return from suspension and added the to reserve grade squad. Mitch Newnham continued his impressive late season form and will again be a key player for the Wildcats tomorrow.
Meanwhile Sedlen confirmed that Ward Derwin’s season is over after he injured his knee in the major semi-final against Wallis Lakes.
“Unfortunately Ward’s out for the rest of the year,’’ Sedlen said.
Cody Chick is expected to replace Derwin in next Saturday’s first grade grand final at the Harry Elliott Oval.
