The walk will be hosted and organised by members of Recovery in Action (RIA).
The RIA group has been recently formed with the following purpose "Focused on recovery we work to enhance the opportunities for those with a lived experience of mental health issues, to live the life they want."
As September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day, Lifeline is encouraging communities across Australia to walk to raise awareness and reduce stigma around the issue of suicide.
The 'Out of the Shadows and into the Light' walks are part of Lifeline's Suicide Prevention Strategy "to inform the public about our suicide prevention work and our vision for a suicide safer future", in order to create "a climate for access to care and provision of care by Lifeline and the wider community".
Due to the success of last year's walk, Recovery in Action (RIA) wishes to continue to build awareness and support around this very important issue.
The group will meet at 11am at the River Street end of Pulteney Street, Taree, proceeding along Victoria Street to Manning Street and circling back to the beginning.
Anyone who would like to join the walk is encouraged to register on Lifeline's website.
