Dawby, a former player and committee member with the Tigers, is battling cancer. While he now lives in Sydney he remains close to the football club and was in the crowd for Wingham's game against Port City three weeks ago. He'll be home on July 20.
The benefit will start at 9am with a barbecue breakfast followed by bowls. In the afternoon there'll be raffles and an auction. An on-going raffle will have two tickets to the NRL grand final along with accommodation as the major prize.
A committee headed by Alan Skinner and including Rex Dawson, Graham Urquhart and Stephen Blanch will organise the day.
On Saturday July 19 Wingham will host Old Bar in what will be a vital game in Group Three Rugby League. This will also be held in conjunction with a Wingham Old Boys day and a number of past Wingham players will be there, including Matt Robertsonx04 who will travel from West Wyalong, Brian Wilson from Tamworth and Andy Guy from the Hunter area.
"We're expecting a huge couple of days,'' Stephen Blanch said.
Those wishing to play bowls on July 20 can put their names down at the bowling club.
