Greater Taree City Council has advised that despite work on Old Bar Road not starting until 08:45am today, planned traffic delays were exacerbated by motorists slowing at the “step-down” points, where pavement levels change by approximately 40mm.

The 90-degree step-downs combined with the significant amount of traffic caused the major delays this morning.
To minimise the impacts of the step-downs, ramps have now been placed to help ease traffic flows.
Lowered cars and cars with low profile tyres are asked to travel on Old Bar Road with caution.
Most of the work on the eastbound lane has been completed, however, delays of over 30 minutes may still be experienced this afternoon and Friday morning.
The road will resume to two-way overnight, with work ceasing at 5pm. It is expected disruptions will build again from 8am Friday morning, with lane closures beginning at 8:30am.
750m of work was completed today with a further 750m due to be undertaken tomorrow. The works are scheduled to be completed Friday afternoon, weather permitting.
Unfortunately there no viable alternatives routes due to their condition. School busses will be given priority in the traffic queues.
