St Joseph's Primary School once again leads the charge and are to be congratulated on their program which is driven by Miranda Bourke.
Big numbers of young children are flocking to the game with eight teams set to play in the year 3/4 mixed competition. The year 5/6 girls teams have also increased and year 5/6 boys teams have remained steady when compared to 2013. The first clashes tomorrow are scheduled for 9am, then continue in 50 minute time slots with the last games set to start at 12.20pm to wrap up a fun day of basketball action. All children and their parents are reminded there is a $20 NSW Basketball registration fee which covers the duration of the competition, the weekly playing fee is set at $5 and the draw for games is available on the Taree Basketball website, www.taree.basketball.net.au
A good spin off from the highly successful term four primary school competition in 2013 was experienced earlier this week when there was a big jump in playing numbers in the Tuesday afternoon junior competition with first year high school students rolling up to Saxby's Stadium to continue their basketball experience which was sparked playing primary school basketball.
Male basketballers return to the court tonight following a break for the Christmas/New Year period and there are still places available for players looking for some exercise to finish the working week. The competition is only offered to players who hold a current NSW Basketball registration ($70) and can commit to regular participation.
The women's basketball competition tipped off on Tuesday night and there are a couple of teams who are seeking additional players and anyone who would like to give basketball a try, simply contact Taree Basketball on 6551 7456 to register.
