Saxby’s Stadium will be open next Tuesday from 4pm for teams and individuals wishing to drop in to shoot some hoops or gather more information about the upcoming competitions.
With students back from holidays next week, school basketball co-ordinators will be busily putting their teams together for the popular Saturday morning primary school basketball competitions at Saxby’s Stadium.
The competition will be conducted in three different divisions, boys school years 5 and 6, girls school years 5 and 6 and mixed school years 3 and 4 and will get under way on Saturday February 8.
All players will be required to pay an individual registration fee and the weekly game fee.
The Taree Tornadoes junior representative program will once again see teams travel to weekend events in Armidale (March), Tamworth (April and May) and Lismore (June) with the finals in Grafton (July) to compete in the Waratah Northern NSW League.
Traditionally, the entry level for Taree junior representative teams has been set at the under 14 age group.
But with the growth in the number of children playing primary school basketball last year it has been decided to assess the feasibility of nominating U12 teams to cater for younger children. Participation in the Waratah Northern NSW Junior Basketball League also needs a commitment from parents to assist as coaches, managers and scorebench personnel as well as having the capacity to pay the weekend playing fee of $50 plus travel and accommodation costs.
For families with children interested in representative basketball, the following will assist in determining a child’s age group in 2014. U12 players born 2003/04, U14 players born 2001/02, U16 players born 1999/00 and U18 players born 1997/98 and greater information will be available at Saxby’s Stadium on Tuesday night.
