The annual event is sailed from Manning Point to Taree.
Kneebone won from Manning sailor Robert Baker in the VS Zephr with Aaron Hancock third in a Hobie 18.
A fleet of 54 took part in the event in a 15 knot north east.
The marathon returned to the January date this year after being sailed in February in 2013.
BEN Whitbread from Forster-Tuncurry spurred Mid North Coast to victory over North Coast in the Stan Austin Shield under 16 cricket final played at the Johnny Martin Oval in Taree on Thursday.
Whitebread took 6/21 as Mid North Coast successfully defended the total of 202. He was named player of the match.
The game was played in sweltering conditions. Mid North Coast batted first and made 202 with M Clarke top scoring with 59.
North Coast made 163 in reply.
Six sides contested the annual carnival.
