Contra flow traffic conditions are in place on the Pacific Highway at Coolongolook following a single vehicle crash last night that saw a car-carrier and the five utility vehicles it was carrying completely destroyed by fire.

According to a spokesperson from the Manning-Great Lakes Police District, the 28-year-old male driver of the car-carrier refueled his vehicle at a Coolongolook service station at around 9:30pm before proceeding south on the highway.
After travelling a short distance, the driver noticed flames emanating from beneath the engine hood before he collided with a concrete barrier on the Curreeki Creek Bridge.

The driver was able to escape from the car-carrier before it burst into flames, destroying the car-carrier and the five vehicles it was carrying.
The driver reportedly suffered a fracture to his lower right leg as he was escaping from the car-carrier.
He is being treated at Manning Base Hospital, where he will also go undergo mandatory testing.
The southbound lane of the highway was completely closed for some time following the crash, before contra flow conditions were put in place at around 5:10am, according to Live Traffic NSW.
Live Traffic NSW is currently advising motorists to allow extra travel times and exercise caution.
A salvage operation is due to start later today to remove the wreckage.
