Formerly a competition for residents of the Manning Valley, businesses are encouraged to harness their community and festive spirit to decorate Victoria Street with Christmas lights.
The initiative was launched at Taree Night Bazaar on Saturday, November 24.
The lights will remain in place and operational until the end of the year as the first steps to making the CBD a warm and inviting place for the community.
The chamber has established an arrangement with local real estate agents to enable displays in some currently vacant shopfronts.
School and community groups are being encouraged to adopt the spaces and arrange some Christmas displays.
All involved are encouraged to make a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Taree Business Chamber president John Stevens said the initiative will help create a vibrant experience for patrons of the CBD in the lead up to Christmas.
“The chamber is really looking forward to working with CBD businesses in helping to bring some seasonal cheer to our streets whilst raising money for a fantastic cause,” Mr Stevens said.
Mr Stevens highlighted the importance of shopping locally this Christmas.
“These businesses give people a livelihood and make our public spaces great places to be.
“A coordinated effort to enhance the patron experience is the focus of shopping centres nationwide this season and so we want to help retailers outside those centres offer just as good an experience,” Mr Stevens said.
Businesses and community members interested in being involved are encouraged to contact the chamber via info@tareebusinesschamber.com.au.
