"MidCoast Council’s summer water savers program applies throughout daylight saving to reduce the amount of water we use during the warmer months, and applies to households, businesses, parks, gardens and sporting grounds," water services director, Brendan Guiney said.
The program’s main message is simple - don’t spray in the middle of the day!
All fixed hoses, sprinklers and microspray systems should not be used during the hottest part of the day – between 9am and 4pm.
Supporting the summer water saving program will not only help water supplies, it is also more effective for gardens.
Watering during the heat of the day is inefficient as the water evaporates before the plants have a chance to benefit from it – wasting water and money. Watering gardens in the cooler hours of the day instead is far more effective.
Mr Guiney said he hopes customers will once again take up the challenge to reduce their water consumption during summer.
“We do thank our community for being careful with our water resources over the winter – water use was kept to a level that was the equivalent of water restrictions – allowing us to avoid the need for formal restrictions,” Mr Guiney explained.
“We urge our community to keep up this good effort as the weather warms up.”
