Brown is on Warwick Farm trainer David Pfieffer’s four-year-old gelding Explosive Missile whereas McEvoy is on champion Newcastle trainer Kriss Lees’ four-year-old mare Unbridled Power.
Explosive Missile is the better drawn of the two but the mare has had experience on the Bushland Drive track.
Explosive Missile had some handy finishes last campaign and since resuming has had a fourth and a maiden win over 1300m at Newcastle on May 8 and should be further improved.
Unbridled Power won over 1411m at Taree on April 23 and was 1.66 lengths fourth over 1500m to Hand It In at Newcastle on May 8.
It has also been consistent with a second to Taree’s Hebrides Maneuver at Taree, and the same placings at Scone and Kembla Grange to show its depth.
Taree trainer Ross Stitt has engaged top Mid North Coast jockey Ben Looker for three-year-old gelding Blinkin Artie and it must rate with three wins from seven starts on the track, two at the distance.
Gosford trainer Kristen Buchanan had to retrial four-year-old mare Dual Escape after she humped and lost all chance at Scone but the galloper “has done everything right since.”
Another Taree trainer Wayne Wilkes has four-year geldings Kendalman and Sniponet in good form and they could figure with a change of luck in a race where something over the odds could surprise.
