“Over the last seven years the NSW Government has made major investments and supported the private sector’s moves to cleaner power generation technologies in wind, solar and hydro power projects,” Mr Bromhead said.
“As power prices continue to rise it is incumbent on me as a Member of Parliament to investigate ways to find a happy medium between reducing the cost of living that many families and seniors across the Myall Lakes are struggling with and a cleaner environment for the future.
“Absolutely, I want to ensure I leave a better community for our grandchildren but I also have a responsibility to my constituents today.”
Mr Bromhead said research has shown that if governments across Australia had invested in new generation HELE coal fired power generation over the last 10 years, we would be meeting and exceeding the Kyoto targets already.
“We are exporting coal to HELE power plants across Asia, these plants have shown that new generation HELE plants are burning less coal to produce electricity with less emissions than the current stock in NSW.
“Feedback can be provided by visiting www.stephenbromhead.com.au/coal-fired-powerstation or calling the Myall Lakes electorate office on 6555 4099, all feedback will be collated and the views of the electorate will be represented in Parliament,” Mr Bromhead said.
“I encourage people to provide their feedback on the suggestion that the NSW Government invest in the construction of a HELE coal-fired power station so that we can increase the base load power being fed into the grid and put downward pressure on electricity prices,” he said.
