Reconstruction works on Black Head Road kicked off in February and are well underway.
A section stretching 620 metres is being targeted for safety improvements, including realigning and widening the road to nine metres, constructing a turning lane from Black Head Road into Federation Drive, sealing the road shoulders and providing a flatter road reserve or “batter” area on both sides.
“With any roadworks comes disruption to regular traffic, but in this case we’re balancing completion of the project with the need to cater for travellers making the most of the holidays and the last of the summer season,” Rhett Pattison, MidCoast Council’s manager projects and engineering said.
“We’ve adjusted our project schedule to ensure ease of access for motorists into and out of the popular coastal villages of Halliday’s Point, Black Head and Red Head in the holidays”.
The work site will be secured and the road operating as normal in both directions for the duration of the Easter break, Friday March 30 through to Monday, April 2.
Crews will return and continue with minor works until Friday, April 13 ceasing all activity for the duration of the school holidays, April 14 to 29.
“This will extend the completion date out to around early-June, but will ease the impact on this well-frequented route during a peak time”, Rhett added.
Motorists are urged to be alert to changing traffic conditions and speed limits during this time, to observe all roadworks signage and directions from crews, and to continue to travel with caution through the partially completed roadworks site.
