The whole school was very excited to see Latrell, as for many students he is their ‘footy idol’.
Latrell is a great Indigenous role model and he gave freely of his time to showcase his footy talents and also challenge students to a game of hoops on the school’s basketball court.
Many parents commented that Latrell’s visit to Manning Gardens made many of their children’s dreams come true.
As a result, more students from Manning Gardens are taking up Saturday sport, in particular playing rugby league. Year three student Aiden was beaming the whole afternoon and said it was one of the best days in his life.
“Latrell’s visit to the school was unbelievable and helped to spread the important message that Taree has many local Indigenous role models who can show all our students the importance of getting an education and maintaining a healthy lifestyle through participating in organised team sport,” school principal Paul Sortwell said.
Latrell is also a great example of what can be achieved when an individual sets and works hard to achieve goals.
All Indigenous students at the school set learning and personal goals via the school’s personalised learning pathways program.
