The association is financially viable but very short on volunteers, so if you live locally and can give some time, head along to the AGM on Thursday March 15 at 7.30pm at the hall on Bucketts Way.
Secretary Helen Scarr said not a lot of time is required with volunteers needed for:
- Attendance at the monthly meeting, which is also a great opportunity to catch up and exchange news and enjoy a lovely light supper
- The occasional working bee – generally a couple of hours, not hard work, with morning tea
- To povide assistance at events we held at the hall, the more people on the roster the less time you need to commit.
“The hall is a valuable part of the community, especially during times of natural disasters and it would be a shame to lose this great resource,” said Helen.
“Where will you hold your next party? Do you really want to go to Taree or Wingham to vote?”
In order for the association to continue they need to fill the following roles:
- President
- Vice- president
- Treasurer
- Editor for the Burrell Creek notes
- Public officer
- Catering co-ordinator
- Bingo co-ordinator
- Media liaison
No prior experience needed.
“I would like to express a huge vote of gratitude to the few people in the community who have kept the Burrell Creek Youth and Community Association going by remaining on the committee and turning up for events, working bees and generally keeping the hall afloat,” said Helen.
“They have done an amazing job, many of them for a lot of years, and as everyone gets older they need to take some time for themselves.”
If you would like to be part of the committee, or have ideas for how the hall could be better used for the community, or events you would like to see happen, go along to the meeting and make your voice heard.
“If we cannot fill the committee positions the hall will close and we will lose a valuable asset for our community,” added Helen.
