The people of the Mid Coast region are all too familiar with times of flood. Our location along natural waterways and catchment areas including the Manning River, Karuah River and Wallis Lake, unless carefully managed and planned, can place residents, businesses and livelihoods at risk.
If you have experience with flooding in your area, the team at MidCoast Council is asking for your input on the Floodplain Management Advisory Committee.

This group of experienced local representatives from all areas of the region, will be joined by Councillors and specialist staff from council and other government agencies to provide invaluable input into planning and mitigating the risks associated with flooding.
“We have a number of floodplain studies in the pipeline, but to ensure the specific needs of each local area are represented, we need to tap into those people who are on the ground, those who live and work in the areas,” said Councillor Peter Epov, who will chair the new committee.
This group will meet at least three times per year, for the remainder of the council term, and play a critical role in protecting localities across the region in times of flood.
The purpose of the group is to provide input and advise council on plans and strategies that will be developed to manage flooding within each area. Experience will be drawn from committee members in regards to both a region-wide approach, and on a localised basis.
“We’ve extended the application period, so if someone with flooding experience is considering being involved, now is the time to act”, Cr Epov said. “Don’t rely on someone else from your area to apply, as it’s important every area in our extensive region is represented.”
Expressions of interest can be made by completing a short online application form, or mailing an application to PO Box 482 Taree 2430, before Wednesday, March 21.
