David Jones' Gala Runway on Monday night marks the first show of the three-week festival, with model Jessica Gomes set to unveil the latest collections from leading Australian and international designers under the grandeur of the Royal Exhibition Building.
Among the front-row guests will be Australian actress turned-Hollywood star Kassandra Clementi, who has jetted in from LA for the event. Rumours are swirling that 1990's supermodel Helena Christensen will also attend.
The show will feature a live performance from Australian singer-songwriter Vera Blue.
Now in its 22nd year, the festival is a fashion devotee's paradise, with more than 100 designers showing at 50 runway shows.
And unlike Sydney's fashion week, the runway clothes aren't six months from hitting stores - they're available to buy immediately through an interactive on-site store.
The Melbourne Fashion Festival runs until March 18
