Phoebe will contest the nine years 50 metre freestyle. She has already had a busy and successful season in Mid North Coast carnivals and beyond. The highlight was winning a gold and bronze medals at the Country Regional Championships held at Port Macquarie.
Phoebe is the Manning River Times-Iguana Sportstar of the Week, earning a $50 open order at Iguana for her efforts. She struck gold in the 100 metres butterfly and was third in the 100 metre backstroke at the regionals. Now the sprint series is her goal.
“I think I’ll do okay,’’ she said.
Phoebe is a member of the Taree Torpedoes, first joining when she was seven, following her siblings into the sport. She trains twice a week, hitting the water at 5.30 each morning. Phoebe assures the early starts ‘don't really’ bother her.
She’s recorded a number of personal bests in freestyle and butterfly this season while she was also the age champion at the Kempsey carnival. Phoebe’s in the pool most of the year, training at Taree as well as Forster, where she is one of a number of swimmers coached by Peter Sanders.
