Many took to the Manning River Times Facebook page to express their excitement for the facility, to be known as Livvi’s Place.
“Long overdue!! Can’t wait to have a decent playground in Taree,” wrote Tracy Strybis.
“That’s exciting,” wrote Channtha Kong.
Some also showed concern for the well-being of children and safety at the site.
“Hoping for some shade for the families to enjoy the parks in summer,” wrote Kerrie-Anne Callender.
The white triangle shapes on the layout shown below indicate which areas will be shaded.
It has been suggested that security cameras and constant cleaning of the site would be required.
“Hoping this will be locked at night to keep people/kids from using it to vandalise or drug use.
“Otherwise you are wasting your time and money guys.
“It will be extremely appreciated and needed, providing it is used for the right reasons,” wrote Tamika McCarthy.
“If Taree is to move ahead we need to eliminate the negatives.
“Surely council will be able to install cameras signs and solar operated lights to avoid people hanging around at night plus a police check.
“This is a really exciting thing for families in this area,” wrote Theresa Watts.
Others hoped the equipment will be transported to another site and existing playgrounds in the area will receive the same treatment.
“It would be good to reuse the old equipment somewhere that needs it too,” wrote Veronica Roddom.
“Sadly Wallabi Point or even Old Bar haven’t even been mentioned. Wallabi Point has a great area and it would be wonderful to see an upgrade to a very very small playground,” wrote Liz N Andrew Cronk.
The playground will be decked out with many features such as include swings, accessible carousel, play table, spinning water ball, trampolines, crab climber, elevated accessible sand pit and internal bike track.
The large tree adjacent to the existing playground will not be removed from the site.
