More than $1 million in improvements to the road network in and around Bulahdelah and Pindimar has been finalised, with MidCoast Council set to begin sealing a further one kilometre of Bombah Point Road next month.

Federal Member for Lyne, Dr David Gillespie said $100,000 had been invested through the Federal Coalition Government’s roads to recovery program towards upgrade work in Prince Street and Jackson Street in Bulahdelah.
“This work around Bulahdelah Bowling Club has involved the provision of new road pavement with a new bitumen surface and drainage works,” Dr Gillespie said.
“Work will also begin in March to seal a further one kilometre section of Bombah Point Road which will be completed the following month.”
Dr Gillespie congratulated MidCoast Council on the recently completed $665,000 upgrade of Wattley Hill Road at Bungwahl, saying the project had seen the construction of a new bitumen road pavement improving safety.
Dr Gillespie said a further $240,000 had been allocated to upgrade roads in Pindimar.
“Council has also utilised the funds from our increasing investment in roads to construct new bitumen pavement surface and drainage works in Wood Street, Cook Street and Peace Parade in Pindimar,” Dr Gillespie said.
Funding from the Federal Coalition Government’s roads to recovery program is provided to all local government authorities to assist them in maintaining and upgrading their local roads.
In the 2017-18 budget, the Coalition Government confirmed its commitment to provide an additional $50 million on an ongoing basis to the roads to recovery program from 2019-20, to bring the annual allocation to $400 million across all councils in Australia.
Total funding for the programme from 2013-14 to 2020-21 is $4.4 billion. This is in addition to other important federal funding initiatives such as federal fniancial assistance grants, road blackspots and bridges renewal programs.
“We’re increasing funding for local roads and bridges at the federal level, and I am delighted to see projects that are critical to improving the overall local road network, such as these upgrades, included in council’s roads to recovery works program,” Dr Gillespie added.
