Taree High School held its annual swimming carnival on Thursday, February 8. It was a fabulous day and the weather was beautiful.

School staff were very impressed with how well the students behaved and participated in the event. This year, year seven had the most participants which was great to see.
In the girls competition, Murray house took the top spot, with Hooke, then Peel close behind, and Manning coming in close fourth.
Peel house claimed the win in the boys competition, with Manning taking second. Murray was third, and Hooke fourth, with only a handful of points separating them.
A number of old school records were broken on the day, with a some spectacular performances.
Bevan Smith’s new time of 31.09 seconds in the boys 15 years 50m backstroke overtook the record from 2005.
In the girls 17+ years 50m backstroke, Claire Van Kampen replaced the 1985 record with a new time of 34.53 seconds. She also claimed the girls 17+ years 50m freestyle record with a time of 28.35, beating the record from 2004.
Jordan Moscatt’s time of 31.25 seconds beat out the 2016 record for girls 17+ years 50m Fly, she also replaced the 2016 record for girls 15 years 50m freestyle with a new time of 28.65.
In the girls 16 years 50m freestyle, Emily Rainger smashed the 2015 record with her time of 29.53.
Staff concluded it was one of the best swimming carnivals held in years.
