Crowdy beach was shut on Sunday afternoon after reports that a shark was spotted feeding on bait fish close to shore.

The surf club was informed of the sighting around noon and a patrol member instructred swimmers to leave the surf. Two lifesavers then did a sweep of the area in an IRB. The shark alarm was sounded soon after and the patrol flags were taken down. There were about 100 people on the beach at the time.
“The beach will be closed for half an hour,’’ a club spokeswoman explained.
An IRB crew was then scheduled to do another sweep of the beach before the patrol finished for the afternoon.
Earlier a pod of dolphins was seen attacking bait fish.
