MidCoast Waste Services will be surveying 100 garbage bins each month to ensure the recycling message is on target.

A Mid Coast kerbside waste audit in 2017 found just over 15 per cent contamination in  yellow bins. However, almost 10 per cent of our red bins still include recyclable items.

The waste service will be inspecting bins in targeted areas.

Common products incorrectly placed in the yellow bin are coffee cups, nappies, ropes, hoses, leads, and timber, clothing and machinery items. Some can be recycled at your community recycling centre, but they are unsuitable for the waste service’s machinery.

Items such as empty aerosol cans, long life milk containers and liquid paperboard are suitable for the yellow bin.
