Tinonee Soccer Club president Laurent Gonfond is not giving up hope and is advocating for funding to help install lights at the ground and a turf cricket pitch.
"We're knocking at the door but the door won't open,” Laurent said.
“We’re at a dead end right now.”
A total of $250,000 will be needed to complete the works.
Laurent said the club wants to support the Tinonee Cricket Club by rallying for the turf pitch
"We want the cricket association to look at how they can help but it's mainly how we can help them,” he said.
The vision is simple: the lights and pitch are installed so soccer games can be played on a Wednesday night while junior cricket games take place on Friday nights.
Laurent said this is so cricketers no longer have to play in the searing heat of a Saturday morning.
"If we can help cricket, we can help soccer.”
He added that the club is also interested in boosting netball in Tinonee.
“The netball courts are hardly used,” Laurent said.
The cricket club has ceased pursuing the venture.
The club has received grants for the project from State and local governments but has still not made a real dent for the project.
Laurent said Football Mid North Coast would appreciate another field that has lights in addition to those in the Manning and Great Lakes.
The club has run multiple fundraisers over the years, including more recently a drive at the Tinonee Christmas Carols.
On-field, Laurent is confident the side will be competitive across all grades in 2018.
The club has registered up to 180 members.
"Last year out of every single competitive team, we all reached semis, final and grand final so that was brilliant,” he said.
He added that the club’s committee is doing a great job and is well backed by the Tinonee community.
A degree of progress is still going ahead at the site after the club received a grant to extend the awning at the clubhouse over tables, chairs and the boundary fence.
This will be completed over the coming months.
